Ask Centrion about Slate Engine

What is Slate Engine?

One of Centrion's most ambitious engineering projects: an independent, experimental browser engine built in Rust. Slate brings together custom HTML and CSS parsing, DOM and layout systems, SlaterMonkey JavaScript integration, network security policies, and offscreen rendering behind an inspectable engine API. Dedicated lifecycle, rendering, and conformance tests underpin an effort spanning language runtimes, graphics, and web standards. It demonstrates Centrion's ability to tackle the foundations of the web, from source markup to rendered pixels.

For developers and researchers interested in how browser engines turn web documents into pixels, and how the stages of that process fit together.

Inside Slate Engine

Document parsing and layout

Custom HTML and CSS parsing feeds DOM and layout systems, making the path from source markup to a laid-out document inspectable.

SlaterMonkey integration

SlaterMonkey scripting connects a JavaScript runtime to the engine pipeline alongside network security policies.

Rendering and engine testing

Offscreen rendering, lifecycle tests, and conformance tests support investigation of the engine through its API.

How it works

  1. Parse HTML and CSS into the engine’s document structures.
  2. Run layout and scripting through the engine pipeline.
  3. Inspect rendering output and exercise lifecycle and conformance tests.

Project status

Slate Engine is experimental browser-engine research. Development focuses on engine internals, rendering behavior, and web standards. For availability, documentation, or collaboration, contact Centrion.
