What is Phage?

An experimental programming language with its own parser, typed intermediate representation, diagnostics, and command-line tools. The toolchain checks and interprets a supported language subset, while a Cranelift backend lowers typed functions for JIT compilation.

For developers exploring language design, compiler construction, typed intermediate representations, and how an interpreter and JIT backend share a toolchain.

Inside Phage

Language frontend

A dedicated parser and diagnostics system turn source text into a representation the toolchain can check.

Typed lowering and interpretation

Typed intermediate representation and an interpreter support checking and executing a defined subset of the language.

Cranelift backend

Supported typed functions can be lowered for JIT compilation with Cranelift.

How it works

  1. Parse a program and examine language diagnostics.
  2. Check the supported language subset and lower it into typed intermediate representation.
  3. Interpret supported programs or explore JIT compilation of supported functions.

Project status

Phage is an experimental language toolchain. Interpreter and JIT support currently cover a defined language subset. For availability, documentation, or collaboration, contact Centrion.
